When considered from the point of view of the children of the Upper East Side's hottest, things rarely look so nice. For one in particular, Grayer (Nicholas Reese Art), life is a series of nannies who disappear as suddenly as they are replaced and parents who see him as much as a burden as a fashion accessory.
Nanny Diaries starts out with 21-year-old Annie (rhymes with 'nannie') Braddock (Scarlett Johansson) graduating with a degree in business--her mom's idea--with a minor in anthropology--her real love. In fact, the narration is done in the style of an anthropological case study, with Annie eliminating actual names so as not to incriminate anybody.
During an interview with an insurance firm--though never mentioned by name, the Travelers Group umbrella logo offers a thread of Mary Poppins references throughout Nanny Diaries--Annie realizes she doesn't actually know who she is. When asked the seemingly simple question, 'Who is Annie Braddock,' she finds herself at a loss for words, and answers, 'I don't know,' before running out of the interview.
Searching for herself, she ends up in Central Park, where she pulls a young boy out of the way of an oncoming Segway personal transporter. The chance meeting proves serendipitous as the boy's mother, Mrs

Next year marks Ando's 40th anniversary as a practicing architect, though it was the Row House in Sumiyoshi, built in Osaka in 1976, that is considered the debut of what has become known as the trademark Ando style: Raw concrete walls and floors, and usually geometric buildings. (There are a few exceptions, such as a recently completed private wooden home in New England.)
Photos of life in the narrow, boxlike Sumiyoshi house made in cement are few and far between. For fans of the superstar architect, Tadao Ando offers a rare opportunity to see the award-winning yet much-criticized home in person: Ando has built an actual-size wooden replica of the home in Gallery Ma's courtyard, leaving visitors open to the same natural elements the Azuma family must contend with in the real home. (An open courtyard separates the two halves of the home, causing the family to famously have to carry an umbrella to go to the bathroom during rainy season.) 'He [Mr. Azuma] says the house is starting to feel cold. When he was young, he didn't particularly notice it, but now he's, what, about 66? So I told him to start working out so he can stay warm,' Ando said, looking to those gathered for a laugh.
Despite the inconvenience, Ando boasted, the Azuma family has lived in the house, which he says cost 10 million yen in 1976 yen to build, for 32 years now. (The cost of the replica is estimated to be the same figure in present-day yen.) In one of the replica's rooms, visitors can watch a video of life at Sumiyoshi
