You know you're giving to a worthy cause, but when you see these families ' the grandparents taking care of grandkids ' it's just icing on the cake.'This is the 7th year for the Empty Stocking drive, the second under the umbrella of Titus County Cares. The nonprofit group organized in April of 2007 as a joint effort of community leaders and pastors from the former Ministerial Alliance to meet the needs of children and families.'There are so many children in Mount Pleasant that have so little. There are children who come to school without shoes, without socks, without proper clothes. They have no food in the house. We're trying to take care of those needs throughout the year and on top of that, Christmas is a time for giving and for hope,' Lee said.With each food box, the organization gives the family a pamphlet that explains the story of Christ's birth.'That's an important part of this, too. We are a Christian faith-based organization, so we want to share the Gospel of Jesus with the kids,' Lee said. 'As a believer in Jesus Christ, I believe that he wants us to help those who are poor and needy and give them some joy at Christmas.'
